Media 100 utilizes Sony's XDCAM Transfer software to log and import form Sony XDCAM cameras and drives. This tutorial will walk you through the steps to access and import your Sony XDCAM media.

Click on Download Now Free of Charge next to the above Kit Description and you will have the current version of XDCAM Transfer Software for Final Cut Pro and you don't even have to use it as a plugin even though they called it that a few pages back.

There are two things you need to take care of before Media 100 can import XDCAM media.

  • Flip4Mac XDCAM Component is no longer being actively developed, sold, or supported. Flip4Mac XDCAM Component is a QuickTime component and Final Cut Pro plug-in that allows users to move to a file-based media workflow when ingesting from and exporting to Sony XDCAM digital acquisition tools. File transfer over Gigabit Ethernet connection provides the fastest import of content possible.
  • Trusted Windows (PC) download XDCAM Browser 2.0. Virus-free and 100% clean download. Get XDCAM Browser alternative downloads.
  • First, your XDCAM camera or drive needs to mount on the desktop like a removable drive. Your Sony should have come with driver software for this. If not, check the XDCAM website described below for the correct software.
  • Once you've got your media accessible by the computer, you need to be able use it. That's where Sony's XDCAM Transfer software come in.

Download and Install Sony XDCAM Transfer Software.

  • Go here, click the 'XDCAM Transfer for Apple Final Cut Pro' link (under Legacy XDCAM Applications), and then download the 'PDZK-P1 XDCAM Transfer Software'
  • Unzip and mount the disk image that is downloaded to your computer then double-click the disk image to launch the installer.
  • Follow the prompts in the installer and restart your computer to complete the installation.
  • You're now ready to import XDCAM media into Media 100!

Set up your Media 100 Video Input Preferences and Codec to the desired settings then ensure that the bin you wish to import to is open.

From the File menu, choose 'Import Sony XDCAM...' XDCAM Transfer will launch and it's preferences will be set so that it 'plays nice' with Media 100.

XDCAM Transfer will scan your system looking for XDCAM media. It will then generate proxy files so that you can browse and log your clips.

You can choose to import the entire clip or create subclips, listed in the logging window to the right. When you are ready, click the 'Import' button in the bottom right-hand corner.

XDCAM Transfer begins importing your clips into Media 100.

The clips appear in your bin ready for use in your Media 100 Project.

Description

The nablet XAVC XDCAM plug-in allows you to link, play, and edit XAVC and MPEG-2 MXF clips recorded on the XDCAM Station (XDCAM Professional Media Station), SxS and XQD memory cards, Professional Discs, or stored on hard disks, inside supported Avid NLE products. The nablet XAVC XDCAM Plug-in also supports proxy editing workflows from certain Professional Disc devices. Furthermore this plug-in allows to export XAVC LongGOP and XAVC Intra MXF files in HD and 4K format.

Xdcam

The nablet XDCAM-EX Plug-in allows you to link, play and edit XDCAM EX content recorded on SxS memory cards or stored on hard disks, inside the supported Avid NLE products.

The nablet XAVC XDCAM Plug-in is the successor of the former Sony PDZK-MA2 plug-in. Note that the nablet plug-in and the Sony plug-in cannot coexist on the same system. The installation of the nablet plug-in guarantees a seamless transition* in your XAVC XDCAM editing workflow after the Sony plug- in had been uninstalled.

*Note that clips in an editing project which have previously been linked by the Sony plug-in will show same plug-in name in the bins clip info although the nablet plug-in now handles them. This is because the Avid application stored the initial information persistently.

Note: The nablet plug-ins and the legacy Sony plug-ins cannot coexist on the same system. Having them both installed will result in unpredictable behaviors of the editing application.
